Super substitute Jill Scott marked her 101st international appearance with the winner as England squeezed past a stubborn Bosnia side with a narrow 1-0 win.

The Manchester City midfielder, honoured for a century of caps with eight of her team-mates before the game, headed home a second-half winner to seal victory in the Lionesses' Euro 2017 qualifier in Bristol.

Jordan Nobbs hit the bar and Eni Aluko missed two good openings before Scott finally gave England the win they deserved despite their wasteful play as they moved into second to sit joint top of Group Seven.

Manager Mark Sampson made seven changes from the 0-0 friendly draw against Germany on Thursday as Fran Kirby, Fara Williams and Scott dropped to the bench.

Jordan Nobbs' 20-yard effort was turned onto the underside of the bar by Edina Hodzic and Izzy Christiansen could not force in the rebound after 10 minutes as England started brightly.

Nobbs also turned provider for Aluko 10 minutes later only for the striker to prod her low ball wide from six yards. The Chelsea striker then headed over after 33 minutes as England continued to press but failed to make the breakthrough.

But Scott came off the bench in the second half to end Bosnia's awkward resistance.

Aluko managed to trick her way to the byline in the 69th minute and she crossed for Scott to head in at the near post past the previously impressive Hodzic.
