James Milner tells Aston Villa he wants to join Manchester City

Let me leave: James Milner wants a transfer

Martin O'Neill today confirmed James Milner wants to join Manchester City but says a deal will only be done if the price is right.

The Aston Villa boss rates the England international at around £30million but City are said to have offered £10m less.

O'Neill said: "I had a conversation with James before the World Cup and he intimated that he would like to go. I haven't spoken to him since.

"I know there have been conversations with his agent and our chief executive.

"Manchester City have made an offer but certainly there is a difference in valuation.

"James is due back next week and I imagine things will get resolved one way or the other in the very foreseeable future."

Villa offered to make the 24-year-old the highest paid player in the club's history in those pre-World Cup negotiations.

The former Leeds and Newcastle star, who scored 19 goals in 95 appearances following his move to Villa Park in August 2008, has made it clear he wants to move to a bigger club and City are the most likely destination.
