ITV explain reasons for cutting short Jose Mourinho interview

ITV have hit back after coming under-fire for cutting short an interview with Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho as he was revealing his future plans.

The Portuguese was being interviewed by reporter Gabriel Clarke after the Spanish side's exit to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last night.

Clarke had asked Mourinho: "Maybe next season with Real?" to which Mourinho responded: "Maybe not ... I want to be where people love me."

However, instead of letting the manager continue, Clarke was quickly forced to wrap the interview up in order to go to the 10pm news bulletin.

ITV said in a statement today: "Our reporter Gabriel Clarke managed to land an unexpected interview with Jose Mourinho with only two minutes left before the end of last night's Champions League programme on ITV.

"At that stage it was too late to arrange an overrun of the broadcast beyond the allotted time. However, in a very tight, live situation, we showed as much as we possibly could of their exchange to viewers."
