Mauricio Pochettino has defended claims that the publication of his book could be the root of Tottenham’s poor form recently, and thanked the media for increasing the publicity.

Spurs have won just one Premier League game in five since the publication of ‘Brave New World’, Guillem Balague’s book featuring insights from Pochettino, chairman Daniel Levy and a number of players.

Before the release of the book Spurs had picked up 20 points from nine, but have managed just four since – losing to Arsenal, Manchester United and Leicester while drawing against West Brom.

Pochettino though, says all the talk around the book can only help its cause.

“Look when the book appears, different quotes about my book, we beat Real Madrid and Liverpool and we had unbelievable results,” the Spurs boss said.

“First of all I want to say thank you to the people that write this story because it's more publicity for my book.

“We are going to help more people because all the money is going to charity. Thank you for thjis, in this period that is coming at Christmas, we can help more people if we sell more books.”

The Argentine, also refuted claims that writing a candid book could have a negative effect on his playing squad.

He added: “No. It's a risk when you lie. If you tell the truth why?

“It was a very honest book that was involved with the club for a very good thing. I think it's an amazing book because for you to read when happens throughout a season at a professional club it's a great opportunity to get a better idea that it's not only about playing football.

“When you are clear with everyone the problem doesn't exist. The problem is when you lie, no? When you lie inside and you want to show that you are different.

“But for me I am here how I am inside and all that has appeared in this book the players know better than me.

“There is nothing to hide. And we won a lot of games when the book appeared. I'm more than happy if the book is the problem, it's easy - on the bench or out of the list.”
