Inter Milan sack Roberto Mancini after Tottenham hit Serie A side for six

Inter Milan have confirmed that coach Roberto Mancini has been sacked following the 6-1 pre-season defeat to Tottenham on Friday.

The decision comes after Mauricio Pochettino's side hammered Inter in Scandinavia, with Harry Kane scoring twice as Spurs netted four second-half goals without reply as Mancini's defence crumbled in Oslo.

The Nerazzurri played poorly in pre-season, losing 4-1 to Bayern before the Spurs defeat, and a managerial switch - with Frank de Boer linked to the role - could well be made before Borussia Monchengladbach arrive in Ancona for a warm-up match on Wednesday night.

A statement from the Serie A club read: "F.C. Internazionale Milano confirms that it has parted company with head coach Roberto Mancini by mutual agreement.

"Inter would like to place on record its thanks to Roberto for the work carried out with the team since joining in November 2014.

"Last season the Club led Serie A until the Christmas break, ending the season in fourth place and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

"We thank Roberto for the work and commitment he has shown the Club over the past 20 months."

When Chinese company Suning Holdings bought a majority stake in the Milan club in June, Mancini was promised a large transfer budget but only managed to secure one major signing, bringing in Italy midfielder Antonio Candreva from Lazio for €22million.
