Ian Holloway’s summer spree isn’t over

Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway hopes to make more signings before the start of the season, writes Giuseppe Muro.

Palace have already brought in six players — Kevin Phillips, Elliot Grandin, Jose Campana, Jerome Thomas, Dwight Gayle and Stephen Dobbie — this summer.

Arsenal forward Marouane Chamakh has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park and Holloway wants to add to his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

“Hopefully I can get some new players in to bolster the squad,” he said. “We are trying really hard, we are getting closer and closer to some really exciting things and hopefully it all works out.

“I need to put pressure on everybody in almost every position. I probably need to get six signings to be able to do that realistically, so me and the chairman are working our socks off.”

Palace captain Paddy McCarthy completed 45 minutes in a 4-1 friendly win against Dulwich Hamlet last night as he continued his recovery from a groin injury.

McCarthy, 30, missed the whole of last season and Holloway said: “He is a step closer to getting in our 25-man squad and getting some games under his belt this season. I am delighted for him.”
