Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink has insisted he is not Eden Hazard's mother after being asked whether the Belgian star needs support to help him rediscover his best form.

Hazard has endured a difficult time this season, and has failed to score a goal in 17 Premier League appearances and 27 games in all competitions for the champions, despite winning the PFA, Football Writers' Association's and Chelsea's Player of the Year awards last term.

Hiddink said on Monday he believes Hazard is good enough to win the Ballon d'Or award, which Lionel Messi claimed for a record fifth time this week, in the future if he can prove consistent over a few seasons.

But the Dutchman also said the winger must find freshness and motivation in his mind to overcome his recent injury issues, which will keep Hazard out of the squad when Chelsea host West Brom on Wednesday evening.

When asked whether Hazard needs an arm around his shoulder, Hiddink said: "I'm not his mother, they get proper attention. They all have an individual approach. One needs a lash, another needs an arm.

"Another one needs to be pinched a bit. It's different but we give him time to come back to his level.

"For me it's about freshness. If your mind is fresh and players are eager to step up and enjoy training that's a signal of freshness.

"He has won trophies but this season he has had some physical problems. Yesterday was the Ballon d'Or and you see the freshness of the players who win the Ballon d'Or - they are playing like youngsters.

"That's what we are aiming for with him. He has to enjoy it and get rid of the physical problems then he will come into his normal shape."
