Gareth Southgate has revealed that members of the England squad have been watching a television placed alongside a picture of their injured team-mate Danny Welbeck.

Though rarely a starter, the Arsenal forward has been a mainstay of Southgate's squads, scoring 16 goals in his 42 caps.

Unfortunately for both England and Arsenal, Welbeck suffered a serious long-term ankle injury in the Gunners' 0-0 draw with Sporting last week.

That has forced the 27-year-old to withdraw from the Three Lions squad for the friendly against the USA on Thursday, as well as Sunday's Nations League clash with Croatia.

In his press conference on Thursday, Southgate told of the unique tribute: "Last night they were watching the TV with a photo of Danny Welbeck by the side of it.

"That’s the bond that this group have."

In Welbeck’s absence, England new boy Callum Wilson could feature, with Southgate hinting that there will be “some debuts” in an experimental team against the USA on Thursday, captained by Fabian Delph.
