Hugo Lloris shelves Tottenham contract talks to focus on AS Monaco and Chelsea games

Hugo Lloris has shelved contract talks with Tottenham to focus on a crucial spell for the club on the field.

Spurs must beat AS Monaco at the Stade Louis II Stadium on Tuesday to be sure of keeping alive their Champions League knockout hopes, while a trip to league-leaders Chelsea is next up for Mauricio Pochettino's in the top flight.

Lloris is the club's highest-earner on £80,000-a-week and his current deal expires in 2019, but he reportedly knocked back an offer of improved terms in June.

Pochettino insists Lloris will remain at Tottenham in the long term and the goalkeeper has told fans there is no reason for alarm after putting talks on hold.

“There is nothing to worry about. I don’t think this is the right moment to talk about [my contract]. But I want to repeat my commitment is to the club and there is no rush," Lloris said.

“I am under contract until 2019 and I enjoy a great relationship with Mauricio Pochettino, Daniel Levy and of course the fans so there is no need for anybody to worry.

“We will see what will happen but at the moment I am focused only on Monaco and the other important matches coming up because it is a busy time of the year.

“There are times during a season when as a player you have to think about yourself and there are times when you have to think about the team – and this is one of those times when it is more important to be focused on the team.”
