Hughes: I’m the one to revive QPR

Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Hughes believes no-one could do a better job than him at taking the club forward.

Hughes took over at Loftus Road in January and managed to keep QPR in the Barclays Premier League.

During the summer Rangers owner Tony Fernandes invested heavily in the first-team squad, but results have not followed and the club sit bottom of the table with just two points.

Despite Hughes receiving strong backing from Fernandes, speculation the former Fulham boss is on borrowed time persists.

But Hughes has refuted the claims and said he would back his own managerial style against the likes of Harry Redknapp, who has been strongly linked with the QPR hot-seat.

When asked if he was worried by other managers being linked to his job, Hughes said: "Not at all, I know how well I work and I know what my staff do on a daily basis, I would put my ability up against anyone.

"I don't think we are talking in those terms (of being sacked), I'm very positive about where we are.

"I understand the reasons why we are where we are, but the focus on us isn't going to go away until we start winning games. We understand that, so we are where we are and we can't change that until we start winning, so why worry about it?"

Everton visit Loftus Road on Sunday looking to inflict further woe on the QPR fans, who have seen their side pick up only one point at home so far this term.

Last season's survival bid was successful in no small part to the home form of Hughes' side and the Welshman wants to start replicating that this year.

"We have always said that last year our home form is what kept us up," he said.

"We have got to try and replicate that and get the same intensity and the same ability to get the crowd behind us and get that momentum which we had a big wave of last year and haven't recreated that this season."
