Tottenham will step up their attempts to sign Jan Vertonghen from Ajax, with sources in Holland claiming £10million could be enough to land the Belgium defender.
Harry Redknapp watched the 24-year-old in action in Ajax's Europa League tie at Manchester United last week and Spurs scouts have been following Vertonghen's performances closely this season.
Vertonghen is keen to move to the Premier League in the summer and has already described Spurs as "an amazing club".
He added: "They are in the top three in England and that is where I want to play. I think my game would be suited to English football."
Tottenham know there is interest in Vertonghen from other Premier League clubs and want discussions with Ajax, to move ahead in the race.
A priority for Spurs in the summer is to strengthen in central defence. Although Steven Caulker is expected to return from a season-long loan at Swansea to fight for a first-team place, greater depth is required.
Sebastien Bassong is on loan at Wolves and is likely to be sold in the summer, William Gallas has struggled with injuries this season and may follow him out of the door, while doubts remain over the long-term fitness of club captain Ledley King.
King's advisors are in talks about extending his contract at White Hart Lane for a further two seasons, but player and club are still to reach agreement on the exact terms of the new deal.
