Harry Kane says his “conscience is clear” following his aborted attempt to leave Tottenham this summer and insists he is focussed on winning trophies with the club.

Kane last week announced he would be staying at Spurs following a summer spent trying to engineer a move to Manchester City.

The England captain failed to report back to the club on time following a post-European Championship holiday and subsequently missed their opening two matches of the season.

Kane later insisted he would never refuse to train and said he had returned to Spurs “as planned”, but he was jeered by Spurs fans in their opening-day win over City.

The 28-year-old is now with the England squad preparing for this month’s World Cup qualifying triple-header and insists he knows “the truth” about what happened this summer.

“No, I don’t think so,” Kane told talkSPORT when asked if he was concerned his reputation could be tarnished.

“Anyone involved in the football industry knows the ins and outs and I was calm with the situation. It was between me and the club, when you know the truth and you know what it going on, your conscience is clear.

“I have had ups and downs and I know a lot of people who know I am a professional athlete and dedicate my life to this game.

“I am pretty good at getting away from everything.

“After the final I was in England for a few days and then went on hols for a couple of weeks and I was rarely on my phone. I know there was a lot of noise around me but I was calm.

“I knew the situation between me and the club. Everyone had their opinions but I am fully focused with club and country and looking forward to a great year.”

Spurs have started the season with three 1-0 wins under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, with Kane returning to the XI for the victory over Watford on Sunday, and the striker says his focus remains on winning trophies with his boyhood club.

“My focus moving forward is to win silverware at Tottenham and this year is no different,” he said.

“We have started brilliantly in the Premier League with three wins and we have a new manager. This is my focus. We want to win as many games as possible and get that trophy I have wanted all my career.”
