Haringey Borough boss Tom Loizou has suffered sleepless nights since sending his son on loan ahead of Friday's historic FA Cup first-round clash with AFC Wimbledon.

Part-timers Boro, who play in English football’s seventh tier, have the opportunity of a lifetime when they host the Dons in front of BBC cameras — but Andreas Loizou will not take part after being sent on loan to Waltham Abbey before the game.

“I’m gutted I had to do that to my own son, my own flesh and blood, but I’ve got two very good players in his position who both had Football League experience at Colchester,” said the Boro manager.

“Andy understood, he’s good as gold. He’s a very good player but he’s had injury problems for a year and half. I can’t give him games. I always treat him worse. I feel so sorry for him. I stay awake at night thinking about what I’ve done but I had to do it. I’ll feel terrible explaining to players why they’ve been left out.

“This is everything for this club.People will know about these players, be talking about these players.”
