Guus Hiddink's first priority will be to boost Chelsea's morale ahead of tough fixture list

Guus Hiddink's role as Chelsea's interim manager begins today after the Dutchman took charge of his first training sesssion at the club - and there is much work to be done.

The former Netherlands boss was appointed as the champions' manager until the end of the season two days after Jose Mourinho left the club for the second time following Chelsea's worst set of results since the 1978-79 season.

Hiddink decided to delay taking charge until he had watched Chelsea's home game against Sunderland on Saturday - which they won 3-1 - but now has little time to boost his players' morale with Watford visiting on Boxing Day.

The Blues also have tough away games against Manchester United and London rivals Crystal Palace to come over the festive period and, with the club sitting just three points above the relegation zone, Hiddink will need to reinstil Chelsea with the belief they can turn their season around.

Meanwhile, rumours about who could take over from Mourinho long term continue to swirl with Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri the latest to be linked to the post.

Watch Standard Sport's Vaishali Bhardwaj talk about Hiddink's key priorities over the next week and who Chelsea will be targeting for the permanent managerial position at the club in the summer.
