'Lord' Nicklas Bendtner is back in English football with Nottingham Forest and even Arsenal's official Twitter account could not resist welcoming their former striker on his return.

The Denmark international became a cult hero in north London during a nine-year spell at Arsene Wenger's side, scoring 45 goals in 171 appearances for the Gunners.

Bendtner joined Wolfsburg in 2014 after falling down the pecking order at Arsenal but left the Bundesliga club in March after a series of disciplinary problems.

And now the 28-year-old, who famously claimed he would go on to develop into one of the world's best strikers, is set to embark on a new chapter in his career after signing at two-year deal at Championship club Forest.

Bendtner's move to Philippe Montanier's side may be a couple of levels below the one he aspired to as a youngster, but the forward is eager to make a success of his time at the City Ground.

"Nottingham Forest is a big club with a great history and I can see myself fitting in here very well," he told the club's official website.

"The club is rebuilding itself now with some very talented players and I look forward to being a part of that. If we reach our targets then it will be an amazing season.

"With three home wins from three and two cup victories so far this season the lads have got us into a really good spot.

"Now we need to continue that good start to the season and push on up the league table," he added.

Bendtner believes he will not need much time to return to match fitness and could feature against Arsenal in the third round of the EFL Cup later this month.
