Barcelona starlet Gavi has again been rewarded for the fine start to his career with the 2022 Golden Boy prize.

Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Kylian Mbappe are among the prestigious list of previous winners of the award, which is voted for by 50 journalists across the continent.

Candidates must be aged under 21 and playing in a top-tier of European football with Gavi, 18, beating a strong field including Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala.

Liverpool winger Fabio Carvalho and incoming Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie, currently on loan at Udinese, were also up for the gong.

But Gavi continued his hot streak in awards ceremonies having earlier this week picking up the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

“Thanks to everyone,” he stated. “I want to thank my family who have always been close to me, I would never have been able to win without them and without Barcelona.”

The ceremony, held by Italian sports daily Tuttosport, also awarded Rafaela Pimenta the Agent of the Year honour after taking over the late Mino Raiola’s agency.
