Arsenal are capable of knocking Bayern Munich out of the Champions League, according to former Gunners midfielder Gilberto Silva.

The Atletico Mineiro star believes that the Gunners can use their underdog status as the European champions did against Barcelona last season and send Pep Guardiola’s side crashing out of the competition.

“I remember how everyone said Barcelona would win, but Bayern did a very good job and went through,” Silva told the Independent.

“Arsenal are having a very good season and they have the quality to progress to the next stage.”

The 37-year-old World Cup winner, who won 93 caps for Brazil, feels the strength of the north London club’s recent signings and youth setup is allowing the team to grow.

He added: “Because Arsenal are a young team they are always getting stronger and stronger.

“They have brought in players with the quality to make a difference on their own and for the team as a whole.”
