Arsenal's Mesut Ozil ushered in a new era in style as he pulled on his new No 10 jersey before helping Germany to a 2-0 victory over Finland on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old's deflected strike, which was officially recorded as a Paulus Arajuuri own goal, capped an impressive night for the world champions following Max Meyer's opener just after the break.

It also marked the end of Bastian Schweinsteiger's international career as the Manchester United made a tearful farewell in Monchengladbach.

Ozil tweeted after the game: "Nice ending for Basti’s @DFB_Team career & a successful beginning for my new number 10 jersey #GERFIN #ServusBasti."

The end of Schweinsteiger's Germany career comes amid uncertainty surrounding his Manchester United future, but the 32-year-old insists he is not ready to bow out of the game altogether.

He continued: "I'm the kind of person who lives on intuition. I don't think of planning ahead, I like to live and enjoy the moment.

"I love football still too much and that means being on the field, playing, and that is what I am thinking about.

"I'm enjoying it too much at the moment and I hope that it continues a few more years yet."
