George Graham looks forward to verdict on trial of interim Tottenham boss

George Graham is fascinated to see how Tim Sherwood fares as Tottenham’s interim manager.

Sherwood has stepped up from his role as technical co-ordinator to take temporary charge of the side following the sacking of Andre Villas‑Boas yesterday.

The former Spurs midfielder has been part of the back-room team at White Hart Lane since 2008 and Graham thinks it is the perfect place for Sherwood to test his managerial credentials.

Former Spurs boss Graham said: “He seems to be well respected at Tottenham, he’s a big, big Tottenham man and I think his ambition is to one day manage a team so he’s getting a little trial period, it’ll be very interesting to see how the team go and how Tim goes as well.”

Graham was sacked by chairman Daniel Levy in 2001 to make way for Glenn Hoddle. Yesterday, former Spurs and England striker Gary Linkeker suggested that Hoddle should be reappointed.

Asked if Hoddle would be a good fit, Graham told BBC Radio 5live: “It would be but they’ve sacked him so it would be a big decision to hire him.”

Former England coach Fabio Capello is the bookmakers’ favourite but Graham said: “I just think he’s probably past his best now. I think he’s a very opinionated, very strong manager and I don’t think that would fit with Tottenham.”
