Gary Cahill has urged Crystal Palace not to rest on their laurels after a bright start to the season.

Palace head into the festive period having gone three matches unbeaten, with the goalless draw at Watford making it seven points from a possible nine, and they are two points off the top six.

“We’ve started [the season] so well,” said Cahill, who was a key figure at the back on his return to the side on Saturday after two games out through injury.

“It’s about pushing on and not looking at what we’ve done so far. Last week was a good return for us but it’s about the next result.”

Palace manager Roy Hodgson faces a selection headache at left-back for Palace’s next match, at home against Brighton on Monday, with Patrick van Aanholt (hamstring strain) and Jeffrey Schlupp (hip injury) both struggling to be fit.
