Rene Meulensteen says Bryan Ruiz has a future at Fulham despite the out-of-favour forward being linked with a January move.

Ruiz has been quoted saying he would consider leaving when the transfer window reopens and Belgium side Anderlecht are interested in a loan deal.

The Costa Rica captain, 28, has not started in the three games since Meulensteen replaced Martin Jol and is keen for regular football ahead of the World Cup. He has scored just once this season and was booed by some Fulham fans last month.

PSV Eindhoven are also interested but Meulensteen has told Ruiz (right) , a £10.6million signing from FC Twente in August 2011, that he still has a role to play.

Meulensteen said: “Sometimes players go through a bad patch. That was the case a little bit with Bryan. It is confidence that drives players on and sometimes you need to protect them a little bit.

“Bryan is a very creative, attacking player. He is a game changer. There are so many games to come and all the players will have a role to play.”
