Fulham midfielder Pajtim Kasami scored a contender for goal of the season to haul his side level at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

The Cottagers had offered little in the attacking third before Kasami thrashed home a volley that resembled Marco van Basten's strike in the final of the 1988 European Championship.

Sascha Riether found the 21-year-old with a pefectly executed long ball from inside his own half before the Macedonian controlled the ball on his chest and unleashed a sensational volley across Julian Speroni's goal and into the top corner.

Jack Wilshere later suggested on Twitter that Kasami's strike was worthy of snatching the goal of the month accolade from his clutches.

On Saturday the England midfielder scored a much lauded goal that was tipped to claim the award.

But Wilshere tweeted: "Well there's my 'goal of the month' prize gone!!!! Take a bow!"

Steve Sidwell ensured the visitors went into the break with the lead as he found the top corner with another impressive volley from the edge of the Crystal Palace box.
