Tim Sherwood has had just over 48 hours to prepare for tonight’s Capital One Cup quarter-final against West Ham but Tottenham must show signs of improvement to enhance his bid to become the club’s permanent manager.

The 44-year-old took temporary charge following Andre Villas-Boas’s sacking on Monday morning and has begun addressing the issues that led to the Portuguese’s departure.

Although this evening’s game represents the chance to reach the semi-finals of a cup competition, the priority for Spurs remains their Premier League aspirations and so Sherwood has the opportunity to try something different ahead of the weekend trip to Southampton.
