With his Hollywood star looks, chiselled physique and propensity to score an awful lot of goals, Cristiano Ronaldo is a marketing man's dream.

As if winning the Ballon d'Or in January and lifting the European Cup last weekend was not enough, the Real Madrid superstar has had his off-the-pitch dominance confirmed in a list ranking the most marketable football stars.

Global sports marketing researchers Repucom say the Portuguese attacker is the biggest football 'trend-setter' and a dream product endorser.

He pips his rival Lionel Messi who comes in at 2nd ahead of Spanish centre back Gerard Pique.

The rankings were devised using Repucom’s Celebrity DBI tool which measures the views of 6500 people across 13 international markets.

Repucom CEO Paul Smith said: Ronaldo's value is as important to the teams he plays for as they are for the companies that endorse him. Global awareness of Ronaldo is what drives his commercial power and with over 82 million Facebook likes and 26 million Twitter followers, he is also one of the most liked in the business.”
