Ian Wright has been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to London Football prize.

The former Arsenal man was honoured at an gala in Battersea to mark his 'significant contribution to football in London'.

Wright played 581 games in a glittering career, scoring the majority of his 387 goals across spells with Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

The 54-year-old won the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup during his stint at Highbury before again moving across London to join West Ham.

Wright represented England on 33 occasions and since retiring has carved out a media career as a football pundit and presenter on both TV and radio.

"So for me to get this recognition is fantastic. I didn’t win too much as an individual so it’s very humbling.

"Bob Wilson and his Willow Foundation, who organise the event, do unbelievable work with seriously ill young adults. I’ve seen some of the special days they’ve given people and they really are very emotional."

The award has previously been won by Jimmy Greaves, Trevor Brooking and Frank Lampard.
