Football League round-up

Lee is Brentford's pen pal

With Richard Lee between the sticks for Brentford, Charlton might as well have waved the white flag when the final whistle was blown in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern semi-final at Griffin Park last night.

The former Watford goalkeeper, who struggled to get a game earlier in the season, broke Charlton hearts by saving the first three spot kicks. Lee made himself the hero by saving successive penalties from Johnnie Jackson, Therry Racon and Kyel Reid.

It is the fourth time in five shoot-outs this season — including the Carling Cup defeat of Everton — that Lee has come out on top. Charlton boss Phil Parkinson was certainly impressed and said: "He was out of this world."

Palace kids run riot in Cup

While Crystal Palace's seniors are struggling for goals, the kids are most definitely all right.
Kyle De Silva celebrated his first professional contract at 17 by inspiring Palace to a 3-0 win at Cardiff in the FA Youth Cup.

The win in Wales followed a scintillating 4-1 demolition of Arsenal's kids and although the first team are struggling in the Championship, the future certainly looks bright at Selhurst Park.

The Palace boys travelled overnight to Cardiff — and it paid off. De Silva netted the first and laid on the second for Ibra Sekajja.

Alex Wynter completed the scoring to send Palace through to the fourth round.

Jackett snubs Morison bid

Regular readers of this of this column will not be surprised to learn that Millwall turned down a £2million offer for striker Steve Morison from Nottingham Forest.

Lions boss Kenny Jackett has always maintained that you don't sell your better players if you want to flourish in the Championship. And Wales international Morison, who has scored 10 goals this season, fits that category.

Meanwhile, Watford's promising midfielder Stephen McGinn will be out for at least a month with a fractured cheekbone and eye socket after an inoccuous aerial challenge with QPR's Rob Hulse at Loftus Road on Friday. The 20-year-old has made 22 appearances this season.
