Manchester City are closing in on Fernandinho after Shakhtar Donetsk lined up another Brazil midfielder as a replacement.

The Ukrainian club have been demanding £30million for the 28‑year-old but are now set to lower their fee. The development comes with Shakhtar on the verge of buying Fernando from Gremio for £11m.

City have already tied up a £23m deal for Jesus Navas from Sevilla although the deal is not expected to be announced until Manuel Pellegrini is confirmed as manager within the next few days.

Spain winger Navas said: “The Premier League is very fast and I’m very excited because Manchester City are putting a very good team together.”
