The Football Association could earn an extra £55 million in revenue should a deal be struck for Chelsea and Tottenham to ground share Wembley Stadium from the 2017/18 season, reports the Mail on Sunday.

Both London clubs are expected to relocate in two seasons time while heavy building work is carried on out on their new grounds, with Spurs already resigned to playing the 2017/18 campaign away from N17, while Chelsea’s time away from Stamford Bridge is expected to be closer to three seasons.

Chelsea will be increasing Stamford Bridge’s capacity to 60,000, while Tottenham’s new stadium will hold 61,000.

Standard Sport understands that Spurs would be open to sharing Wembley with their London rivals while their new ground is being built to avoid relocating the club to Milton Keynes for the 2017/18 campaign.

While there are doubts whether Chelsea would be as open to the deal, the FA are looking to find a way for both clubs to share the stadium.

The FA are under pressure from the Wembley board to sanction a deal to allow a Premier League club to lease the arena, and negotiating a deal for both clubs would prove extremely lucrative.

Both clubs would be expected to pay £11 million a season to loan Wembley, meaning that the 2017/18 season would generate a cash injection of £22m alone.

The Premier League would allow both Chelsea and Spurs to play at Wembley although neither club would be permitted to use more than one venue in a single season for their home games in the League.
