Alan Pardew says Crystal Palace will need to produce a perfect performance to beat Manchester United and win the FA Cup.

Palace face United at Wembley on Saturday and Pardew said: “I remember beating Sir Alex Ferguson at Newcastle, we beat United 3-0 and we put in almost the perfect performance. I feel to win this game we are going to have to put in a perfect performance.

“Manchester United keep the ball really well and we are going to have to be patient at times. We are going to be the side that needs to fight that bit harder to win.

“We have got areas of the pitch where we are slightly superior and we have got to make those areas count.”

Palace lost to United in the 1990 Final but Pardew insists the game this weeked is not about revenge.

He said: “This is about this team getting to the FA Cup Final and hopefully winning. Of course you have got to take on the history of a football club. We get that. But we are not going to try and drown ourselves in 1990. We are going to try and win this game on our own merits.

“This is a club that has a certain DNA and I think it would be good for football if this club to win a trophy.

“We play a street football, we play a fast game, we have players from all different roots. Put that all together and we are an exciting team on the day.

“We have worked really well this week. This group of players is well set for it. It is a great opportunity for them to get a winners medal."
