Tottenham are psychologically ready for the start of the new Premier League season, according to Hugo Lloris.

Mauricio Pochettino's side challenged for the title last term only for their form to falter during the run in.

A 5-1 defeat to Newcastle on the final day of the season consigned Spurs to third place and allowed Arsenal to sneak in and claim second.

However, Lloris is adamant Spurs are ready to compete again ahead of Saturday's trip to face Everton at Goodison Park.

"Our mind is ready. But we never know what to expect in the Premier League," he told the club's official website. "That's why this League is so exciting.

"Everton is one of the most famous places in the Premier League. For us it's a big challenge to start the season at Everton."

Spurs won just one of their opening five games last season and Lloris believes they cannot afford a similarly slow start with a Champions League campaign also on the horizon.

"It's important to start well - very important.

"This season it's going to be very tough, especially because we are going to play in the Champions League.

"We need to save energy through great performances and wins," he added.

Pochettino is set to have an almost fully fit squad to choose from against Ronald Koeman's side with Clinton Njie expected to be the only absentee.
