Everton 2 Tottenham 6: Six of the best as Spurs smash Toffees at Goodison Park

Tottenham displayed their Premier League title credentials with a 6-2 dismantling of Everton in a goal-laden contest at Goodison Park.

Everton went ahead through Theo Walcott after 20 minutes but a defensive howler allowed Heung-Min Son to equalise shortly after.

Dele Alli powered home from a rebound to put the away side ahead and Harry Kane doubled the advantage shortly before half time.

But the away side took control when Christian Eriksen slammed home a fourth three minutes after the interval.

Gylfi Sigurdsson responded, but Kane and Son both bagged their second goals of the day to condemn Everton to a heavy home defeat.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino welcomed top scorer Kane back into the starting line-up, as well as Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez, who had been absent for nine games with injury.

And the 22-year-old had a nervy start, twice being forced into a mistake by Dominic Calvert-Lewin before losing Richarlison in the box when the Brazilian should have headed Everton in the lead.

The Toffees made it count, however, when Calvert-Lewin got past Kieran Trippier and crossed to Theo Walcott, who slotted home from close range.

But the lead didn't last long and it was the beginning of a series of defensive mistakes from Everton which led directly to it.

Kane sent a long ball over the top and it caused confusion for Kurt Zouma and Jordan Pickford. The two collided, allowing Son to finish into an empty net.

And it got worse soon after when Son's effort was parried by Pickford into the path of Dele Alli, who hit a low effort under the England goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Kane soon got in on the act, reacting first after Trippier's free-kick came back off the post to finish into an empty net. Everton's defensive frailities were there to see, but manager Marco Silva held firm.

It got worse after the break when Eriksen thundered a stunning low volley from 25 yards into the corner. Sigurdsson replied with a goal back just two minutes later, but the game was well and truly over when Son latched onto Erik Lamela's pass to slip his effort underneath Pickford.

To add to the misery, Kane stabbed home from Son's cross to make it a tennis score at 6-2. A fantastic performance from Spurs that showed they simply cannot be ignored in the race for the title.
