Europa snub could spell end for Heurelho Gomes

The future looks bleak for Heurelho Gomes at Tottenham after the keeper was left on the bench for last night's Europa League draw against PAOK Salonika.

Manager Harry Redknapp has used Brad Friedel in all three Premier League fixtures so far this season and selected Carlo Cudicini in an otherwise youthful team in Greece.

Although Gomes will start against Stoke in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, he has fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane. "Brad Friedel has been fantastic," said Redknapp. "In the Premier League, Brad has the jersey. I'm lucky, we've got three top goalkeepers here."

Redknapp said on Wednesday that he would play Gomes in last night's game but had a late change of mind.

He said: "I thought it would be better for Carlo. Gomes will get games. I will play him at Stoke in the Carling Cup next Tuesday."

Redknapp made 10 changes from the team that beat Wolves at the weekend for last night's goalless draw. Youngsters Tom Carroll, Harry Kane, Jake Livermore, Andros Townsend and Yago Falque all acquitted themselves well in what was an intimidating atmosphere.
