Tottenham's priority this season remains the Premier League but competing in the Champions League will be a "lovely distraction", according to Eric Dier.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are set to take part in Europe's primary club competition for only the second time in their history and begin their campaign against Monaco next week.

Champions League football will be a new experience for the majority of Pochettino's young side, who have also been drawn alongside CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Dier is adamant he and his teammates' primary focus will be domestic competition, despite the opportunity to rub shoulders with the continent's biggest clubs.

"We're really looking forward to playing again in the Premier League after the international break and we need to kick on this season,"Dier told Sky Sports.

"The aim is to make Champions League football a regular thing for Tottenham.

"The league is still a massive priority for us and this year we have the lovely distraction of the Champions League as well so it's a really exciting season."

Spurs will host their Champions League games at Wembley due to construction work on the site of their current base at White Hart Lane.

And Dier believes performing in front of a potential crowd of 90,000 will represent a special occasion for the north Londoners.

"The opposition are very excited to be able to play at Wembley but so are we.

"We'd love to play at White Hart Lane but it's hard to beat Wembley.

"It's a very special stadium and luckily I've managed to play there already for England but to play there for Tottenham in the Champions League will be fantastic," he added.

Spurs cannot yet let their minds drift towards their Wembley bow as Pochettino's side travel to the Bet365 Stadium to face Stoke on Saturday afternoon.
