Jose Mourinho was forced to summon wantaway midfielder Christian Eriksen just half an hour into Tottenham’s key Champions League clash with Olympiacos, with his side trailing 2-0, with Eric Dier the fall guy.

Eriksen, who is out of contract in the summer, was left out of the starting XI for Mourinho’s first game as Spurs boss – the 3-2 win over West Ham on Sunday – and was again absent from the lineup on Tuesday night.

However, early goals from Youssef El Arabi and Ruben Semedo saw the Greek outfit race into a 2-0 lead after just 19 minutes, with Spurs struggling.

Mourinho had seen enough, sending Eriksen out to warm-up immediately after the second goal went in, and bringing him on in place of defensive midfielder Dier, himself only just brought in from the cold, having been out of favour under previous manager Mauricio Pochettino.
