EPL fixtures list 2017-18: Chelsea vs Burnley on opening day as Premier League champions boast top record

1/36

Chelsea will be in a confident mood of beginning their Premier League title defence in style against Burnley.

The reigning champions boast the best record in opening day fixtures of any team, winning 16 of 25 games at an average points-per-game record of 2.16.

The announcement of the 2017/18 Premier League fixture list sees Sean Dyche's Burnley head to Stamford Bridge on 12 August, and Chelsea will be buoyed with the Clarets losing 14 times away from home last season and winning just once.

Chelsea have lost their first game of the season just three times, drawing the other six, and last tasted defeat at Coventry City in 1998 after losing at the same ground a year earlier.

The Blues have lost at Stamford Bridge just once in the Premier League era, way back at the beginning of the 1993/94 season when eventual runners-up Blackburn Rovers won 2-1.

Manchester United also boast 16 wins over 25 games but have lost five to Chelsea's three at a points-per-game record of 2.08. Liverpool are third with 1.96.

Arsenal take fourth place having won 13 of 25 of their first games at a points-per-game record of 1.80. They lost 4-3 to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on the opening day of the 2016/17 season.

Tottenham, another of the six Premier League ever-presents, have won eight of their 24 opening day fixtures. The 2-0 win over Everton in 2011-12 does not count as it was postponed until January due to the rioting in and around the Tottenham area in the summer of 2011.

West Ham enjoy a better record than their rivals with 10 wins from 21 games, losing 10 and drawing the other, while Crystal Palace have won two of their eight first fixtures.
