England's Euro 2012 stalemate

11 April 2012

Fixtures for England and Wales' Euro 2012 qualifying campaign will be decided by a UEFA draw next week after all the nations in Group G failed to agree on dates.

The stalemate came after a meeting lasting almost five hours in Zurich this morning, attended by England manager Fabio Capello, his assistant Franco Baldini, Wales boss John Toshack and representatives from Switzerland, Bulgaria and Montenegro.

England managed to agree all their fixtures — which included no matches next June — but the rest of the group could not all come to a suitable arrangement.

Football Association officials are understood to be disappointed at the outcome, which will now be decided by a random draw at the UEFA Congress in Tel Aviv.
