England Women XI vs USA: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Wembley friendly today

Chelsea defender Millie Bright will captain England against the USA on Friday night in the absence of regular skipper Leah Williamson.

Arsenal star Williamson suffered an injury in training this week, forcing her to withdraw from the England squad who face the USA at Wembley on Friday and the Czech Republic in Brighton on Tuesday.

Head coach Sarina Wiegman has further fitness issues as striker Alessia Russo is out injured and so is West Ham defender Lucy Parker.

In Williamson’s absence, Chelsea defender Bright will captain the team and Alex Greenwood comes in to partner her in the heart of defence.

Wiegman has a headache in attack, though, as without Russo and, following the retirement of Ellen White this summer, she is lacking a senior striker in the squad.

Rachel Daly continues at left-back, however, despite her forward role at club level with Aston Villa.

Arsenal’s Beth Mead plays through the middle and Euro 2022 final hero Chloe Kelly starts out wide.

England XI (4-2-3-1): Earps; Bronze, Bright, Greenwood, Daly; Walsh, Stanway; Kelly, Kirby, Hemp; Mead.
