England vs Spain: Gareth Southgate may rest Tottenham full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose

Gareth Southgate is considering resting Tottenham full backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose for England's friendly against Spain on Tuesday night.

Southgate has already allowed Harry Kane to return to Spurs to work on his fitness having only just recovered from an ankle problem.

But he is also thinking about resting the north London club's influential right-back and left-back.

Both have had a heavy workload of late and reported for international duty last week with minor knocks.

While they were fit enough to impress in the 3-0 triumph over Scotland, Southgate is prepared to play Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand instead.

They are just two of the changes that the caretaker manager is weighing up for the match at Wembley as he looks to use more of the squad.

Jamie Vardy has a good chance of starting up front, even though Daniel Sturridge scored England's opening goal against Scotland three days ago.

The Leicester striker hasn't scored in his last 14 appearances for club or country and has found the net just three times all season.

But Southgate, who has picked Sturridge to lead the line in the three games he's been in charge of, is set to give the Leicester man an opportunity.

Arsenal's Theo Walcott is being lined up to replace Raheem Sterling on the right, while Jack Wilshere could start in midfield.

Southgate insists he will pick a strong side though and said: “We will make changes for the game but we want to get the balance of that right because it’s important to give some players an opportunity.

“We’ve got competition for places but we also want to keep the structure in place and momentum from what we did in previous matches. So I don’t want to change too much."
