Italian style: Andrea Pirlo caps a fine display with a cheeky chip from the penalty spot
Andy Hodgson13 June 2014

England will meet Italy on Saturday in what is sure to be a vital game for both countries’ World Cup chances.

The match, which will kick off in Manaus’ Arena da Amazonia at 11pm British time, will see the two former World Cup winners come face-to-face for the 25th time, and for the first time competitively since Cesare Prandelli’s side knocked England out of the 2012 European Championships last summer.

That game in Kiev, which saw Andrea Pirlo famously chip a penalty after he ran the show for much of the tie, is one of our five encounters between the Three Lions and the Azzurri remembered here.

We’ve got the World Cup qualifier which left Paul Ince with a bloodied, bandaged head, as well as England’s first ever trip to Italy over 80 years ago.
