England and Wales will play at C international level for the first time in March, both nations’ football associations have announced.

Paul Fairclough’s England will travel to Jenner Park, Barry, to take on a Wales side managed by former Camarthen Town and Maesteg Park boss Mark Jones on March 20.

Both sides will be made up of players from outside the Football League, with England’s team having been founded in 1979 as England Non-League.

Since 2003 it has been managed by Fairclough, who said: “There is a new generation of younger players both in England and Wales who have experienced, in academies, the emphasis on passing the ball.

“Many of the players who will take part in this auspicious occasion will be eager and keen to express themselves. I am confident this will result in an excellent game of football.”

England C reached the final of the International Challenge Trophy, a competition for semi-professional players under 23, in November, losing to Slovakia.
