Dougie Freedman on guard against new Rams raid again

11 April 2012

Dougie Freedman is determined Derby will not profit from Crystal Palace's Carling Cup run for the second time this season

Palace drew 1-1 with the Rams at Selhurst Park last month despite dominating a game which came just 48 hours after their thrilling quarter-final win at Manchester United.

Freedman's men travel to Derby in the FA Cup tomorrow just three days before their semi-final first leg at home against Cardiff but the Palace boss insists the Carling Cup showdown is at the back of their minds.

He said: "It's a little bit of luck for Derby that they catch us so close to a big Carling Cup fixture again but we still have enough in our ranks to put on a good show and win.

"We played really well against them last month but we were a little mentally fatigued after the United match and couldn't hold on. Derby are a very good footballing team when you let them play.

"They beat us 5-0 last season when I was assistant manager under George Burley and we just let them play. We won't be doing that again."

Keeper Julian Speroni is expected to return after recovering from a virus, while Paddy McCarthy is still out with the same illness.
