Fans of FK Vardar and Rosenborg could be forgiven for staying away from Thursday night's Europa League dead rubber tie, but those who attended were treated to one of football's ultimate rewards... a dog on the pitch.

With both sides already eliminated from the competition, the Group L rivals were playing out a 1-1 draw in Skopje, Macedonia after former Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner had equalised from the penalty spot after Ytalo had put the hosts ahead early on.

With Juan Felipe lining up a free kick in the 74th minute, play was halted as a dog entered the field of play.

Vardar goalkeeper Filip Gacevski attempted to get the hound on the move, but only succeeded in giving the pitch invader a belly rub.

With security officials closing in the pooch was on the move, leading them on a chase before fleeing the pitch to end the 'paws' in play.

It may not be the infamous Manchester City squirrel...

... but a meaningless match punctuated by a Bendtner goal and a roaming canine - what more could you want from the Europa League?
