Tottenham: Djed Spence returns to Championship with Leeds loan spell confirmed

Marc Mayo30 August 2023

Leeds have signed Djed Spence on loan from Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou made the young defender available to leave the club earlier in the summer after failing to impress during pre-season, with Emerson Royal and Pedro Porro ahead of him in the pecking order.

Spence, 23, spent the second half of last season on loan at Rennes having joined from Middlesbrough for an initial £12.5million only 12 months ago.

Then-Spurs boss Antonio Conte dubbed his arrival a “club signing” as he suggested he was not enthused by the player joining after a successful stint at Nottingham Forest, where he won promotion from the Championship.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed he will spend the 2023-24 season with Leeds.

The Elland Road outfit have already signed Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham this summer as part of their promotion push.

Spence could make his debut in a Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
