Diego Forlan can't wait to show off the Europa League trophy back in Madrid after ending the club's longest spell without a trophy.
Atletico Madrid fans have been starved of success since their domestic Double in 1996 but Forlan's extra-time winner finally gave them something to celebrate.
"We now hope Madrid will dress in red and white," said the former Manchester United striker. "We are bringing a title back to Spain and it is great for Spanish football. We deserved it. It was an enormous sacrifice to get here. Now is the moment to enjoy it."
Those sentiments were echoed by Atletico coach Quique Sanchez Flores, who also hailed his players' resolve after they overcame some stubborn Fulham resistance.
"Fulham are a very well-organised side and they made it very difficult for us," he said. "This is a massive occasion in the history of the club.
"This final was a big opportunity for our team but it was never going to be easy and when you do manage to cross the line it is a fabulous feeling."
Some of the gloss was taken off the win, though, as Atletico supporters clashed with police as they celebrated in Hamburg last night.
There was more misery for Fulham fans, though, as chaos at Hamburg Airport meant there were long delays getting home.
One fan told how 300 people were taken out to a plane, only to find it had half the number of seats. Dawn Dunlop told the BBC: "The airport didn't have enough staff to cope."
