David Moyes adamant he will ‘squeeze everything’ out of players as he hails West Ham’s resilience

David Moyes has vowed to “squeeze everything” out of his West Ham squad as they bid to break into the Champions League places.

Craig Dawson’s 91st minute goal snatched a point in a 2-2 draw at Leicester City to nudge West Ham a point ahead of Manchester United in fourth place.

Moyes failed to add any new players in the January window and says his squad are in need of a bit of a rocket to finish in the top four.

The Hammers took the lead here through Jarrod Bowen but were sloppy and allowed the Foxes, who scored either side of half-time, back into the game.

Youri Tielemans scored from the penalty spot before Ricardo Pereira headed the hosts ahead - only for the Foxes to be undone at a corner in stoppage time.

“We started the game quite well, had control but gave it away before half-time, gave them a leg up and it was a penalty kick,” said Moyes. They got a goal from it and second half we did not play well but showed resilience to get a point.

“We had not really given them many opportunity, we had chances but did not take it. We were punished for it.

“In the first half I felt annoyed after going into a good lead and gave them a leg up. It says lots for the players, we have come quickly and made massive strides in the last couple of years. I will squeeze everything out of them and I want us to challenge the top teams.”

Kurt Zouma was set to start but had to be replaced by Issa Diop in the starting XI after feeling unwell ahead of kick-off.

“He was ill before the game, wanted to play, we wanted him to play as well,” said Moyes.

“He was sick during the night, he stayed away from the players and did not eat much. Once he got out he did not think it was possible. We told Issa Diop to be ready. It is a stomach bug, probably something he has eaten.”
