David Moyes open to Scotland role as search for club job continues

David Moyes is "happy to talk" to the Scottish Football Association about replacing Gordon Strachan, but would prefer a return to club management.

Moyes has been out of work since leaving Sunderland in May and is a front-runner to succeed the sacked Strachan, who failed to guide Scotland to World Cup 2018.

SFA performance director Malky Mackay has taken over on an interim basis while the recruitment process begins and Moyes, the former Manchester United and Everton boss, has cautiously welcomed contact.

"There's been no approach from Scotland but I work closely with the SFA, just two weeks ago I was working with their coaches, so they know where I am in they want to speak to me," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"I don't think anyone ever turns down their national team but it's got to be at the right time as well.

"My first choice would be to go back to club management but if Scotland want to talk I'd be happy to speak to them to see what they have to say."
