Danny Rose is a doubt for Tottenham’s forthcoming matches after picking up an injury while on England duty.

Rose is unlikely to play in Saturday’s Premier League fixture at Stoke, and may also struggle to recover in time for Tottenham’s opening Champions League game, against Monaco at Wembley next Wednesday.

It would be bitterly disappointing for Tottenham to lose Rose, who has been one of their most dependable players over the last two seasons and become his country’s first-choice left-back.

Ben Davies is expected to step in at Stoke while Spurs assess the damage done to Rose, who they hope will not face too long a spell on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old is Tottenham’s longest-serving player and said earlier this week that he would like to emulate Ledley King, the revered former club captain, and spend the remainder of his career at his current club.

It was an important statement from Rose, who has caught the eye of both Chelsea and Manchester City in the last two years – though Spurs may now have to plan without him for the immediate future.

Davies represents reliable back-up and is full of confidence after an excellent Euro 2016 with Wales. The 23-year-old started for his country as they demolished Moldova 4-0 in a World Cup qualifier earlier this week.

But Rose and Kyle Walker are perhaps the most effective full-back pairing in the country and Pochettino knows that if Rose is missing at Stoke, his team are weaker for it.
