Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon will be feeling doubly embarrassed by his shocking penalty miss against Tottenham on Saturday, after it emerged he had recently offered a fellow professional lessons in spot-kicks.

Puncheon, on-loan at Selhurst Park from Southampton, had taken to social media in the wake of his successfully dispatched penalty against the Canaries on New Year's Day.

The Croydon-born midfielder Tweeted: “@Bradley4Johnson do you want me to give you some penalty lessons??”

The post has since deleted been deleted from the player’s Twitter feed.

But Johnson refused to let Puncheon forget about his sky-high miss, writing: “Yo @punch_jason you still giving out these penalty lesson phone me mate!!”

Tottenham went on to win 2–0 thanks to second half goals from Christian Eriksen and Jermain Defoe.

But the result of what was a close encounter between the two London clubs could have been different had Puncheon converted his 7th minute penalty.

Puncheon took to Twitter last night to apologise to the Palace fans for his spectacular miss in the opening minutes of the match and pledged to work harder in future.

He wrote: “gutted to lose today the boys worked hard and the fans were amazing today. Disappointed to miss the pen but will come back better & stronger.”
