Roy Hodgson plans to loan out Crystal Palace captain Jason Puncheon as the midfielder aims to revive his career after almost eight months out with a knee injury.

Puncheon has not played since he suffered cruciate ligament damage in January and he will be allowed to leave Selhurst Park on a temporary deal this month.

Left-back Pape Souare and midfielder Jonny Williams have also been made available as Hodgson looks to trim the Palace squad.

Puncheon, who scored for Palace in the 2016 FA Cup Final, returned to training in May but has been unable to regain a place in the first team. The 32-year-old has not even made the matchday squad for their first two Premier League games of the new season.

Luka Milivojevic has taken the armband in his absence and the Serb wrote the captains’ notes in the matchday programme for Monday’s match against Liverpool.

Souare has made only five appearances since he returned to action last September following a year out with a broken leg he sustained in a car crash in 2016. The 28-year-old came on as a late substitute against Fulham on the opening weekend but was left out against Liverpool.

Williams, 24, has been dogged by injuries throughout his career and has not played for Palace since January 2016. He spent time on loan at Sunderland last season.
