Julian Speroni has returned to Crystal Palace as an academy coach.

The Eagles confirmed the Argentine’s new role at Selhurst Park on Thursday after he retired from playing in 2019, having featured over 400 times in a 15-year spell at the Premier League club.

Speroni, who had been working with the Palace youngsters on an informal basis in recent months, comes in following Gary Phillips’ departure from the academy.

“It’s an honour to be back,” he told the club website. “Palace is a club that is close to my heart and I am so pleased to be involved once again.

“The older Academy age groups have started their seasons exceptionally well and have performed brilliantly against strong opposition.

“The Academy has changed beyond all recognition in such a short period of time and I’m excited to work with our future players and see the club continue to progress on and off the pitch.”

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish added: “Welcome back Julian - Brilliant to see him back around the place starting his coaching journey.”
